increase or diminish the number of Chinese or British bene-

ficiaries as the case might be.

We also desire to invite the special attention

of the Committee to the possibility of an active interest being taken in some of the proposals contained in this Report by Can- ada, Hong Kong and perhaps by other parts of His Majesty's

dominions. We repeat our recommendation that their participa-

tion in our plans should be welcomed, and we hope that steps

will be taken, when suitable opportunity occurs, to invite

their co-operation.

We are satisfied that if our recommendations are

carried out, the Universities China Committee will be making

provision, in as ample a manner as circumstances permit, for the

carrying out of all the purposes for which the sum of £200,000

was entrusted to it under the Act of Parliament of 1931, and

will be making a valuable contribution towards the promotion

of intellectual co-operation and improved cultural relations

between Great Britain and China.
